Some neat trails to adventure on
Bunce School Road
Skill Level: Moderate to Difficult
Open: Year Round.
The historic Bunce School, impressive ironclads, and interesting plane wreckage. Abundant dispersed camping. Bunce School Road is part county road and part forest road and is mostly easy with a few moderate spots. Side trips to the Ironclads and T-33 Plane Crash are rocky, steep and difficult. The final climb to the Ironclads is extremely steep, but you are close enough at that point to hike the rest of the way.
Switzerland Trail
Skill Level: Easy to Moderate
Open: Year Round.
Bald Mountain provides one of the best views of the Indian Peaks in the area. This route travels along a forest road called Switzerland Trail, for a portion of the loop. This road is shared by hikers, bikers, and OHV riders. Bald Mountain is closer to the Indian Peaks as it sits west of Sugarloaf. Hikers should park at the trailhead below Sugarloaf Mountain and hike to Bald Mountain from there.
